Bartholomew reveals family’s scary brush with death

Sunrise star Edwina Bartholomew and her family are recovering from an almost disastrous health crisis after their beloved pet dog accidentally ate rat poison.

Bartholomew’s husband Neil Varcoe shared a photo to Instagram of their sick blue heeler Mate taking it easy after a close call with death.

“First rat poison and now an upset stomach. Thank you, Blayney Veterinary Hospital, for looking after my best mate,” he said.

Luckily, their beloved best friend appears to have recovered and can rejoin the family at home.

In 2021, Bartholomew, 39, told The Daily Telegraph that she was a massive fan of the ABC Kids show Bluey, about the adventures of a blue heeler puppy, and watched it with Mate.

“Our dog is not as well-behaved as Bluey, but he’ll join us on the couch when we all binge Bluey under the pretence of good parenting,” she said.

Last month, it was reported the Sunrise newsreader was preparing to enter into a long-distance relationship with Varcoewhen he moves out of the family home to become a farmer.

Bartholomew recently celebrated her 10th wedding anniversary and shared the surprising family news in an Instagram post last Wednesday.

Varcoe quit his job at Twitter following Elon Musk’s takeover and will be moving to Capertee Valley, three hours west of Sydney, to work as the chief farming officer at the 1890s Warramba farm the couple restored several years ago.

It is described as a “luxury Australian farm retreat” on 100 acres of land in the Greater Blue Mountains region.

Bartholomew will live in Sydney with their two children — Molly, three and Tom, one — during the week so she can continue her work at Sunrise and will visit Varcoe on weekends.
