Battlefield Single Player Campaign Will Be Co-Developed by DICE and Ridgeline Games

In July 2022, a job listing confirmed that a new Battlefield game featuring a single player campaign was in development at an internal EA Seattle studio founded by Marcus Lehto, former creator of Halo and Disintegration.

As revealed yesterday by GamesIndustry.biz, the studio (now named Ridgeline Games) will be aided by DICE, the creators of the IP. Rebecka Coutaz, General Manager and VP at DICE, stated:

Our decision to build out our single-player team here at DICE is a proactive approach that arms our global teams with the resources they need early on as we look ahead to the next Battlefield experience. We have an immense amount of strength and opportunity within our three global studios, with each team bringing their own set of deep franchise experiences. Now, we are able to expand opportunities and benefit from new talent that will help Ridgeline write the next chapter for the franchise.

For his part, Ridgeline Games General Manager and VP Marcus Lehto added:

Our vision, coupled with their experience with the franchise, is going to see us build a single-player campaign that will engage players in new ways while also remaining true to the classic elements of what makes Battlefield truly unique.

There’s no timeline yet on when this new game might be released. Meanwhile, DICE continues to improve Battlefield 2042 (which does not feature any single player content, unlike most previous installments with the notable exception of the early installments up until Battlefield 2142). Following the reintroduction of the class system with Update 3.2, the game will be updated to Season 4: Eleventh Hour on Tuesday, February 28th. The patch adds the new close-quarter-combat map Flashpoint, set in South Africa; a new playable character, Recon Specialist Camila Blasco, whose X6-Infiltration Device can disrupt enemy spotting and even prevent enemy vehicles from locking on her whole squad; four new weapons (Super 500 Shotgun Sidearm, RM68 Assault Rifle, RPT-31 LMG); and a new vehicle, the CAV-Brawler, which should come in handy as a team spawner near hot objectives.

Season 4 will also receive the map rework of Discarded, though it won’t be available at launch.

PlayStation Plus owners on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 will also be able to redeem Battlefield 2042 for free starting next month and until April 7th.
