Bella Ramsey says they ‘miss’ working on The Last Of Us following creators’ decision not to recast their character

The Last Of Us fans all sighed with collective relief when it was revealed that Bella Ramsey will officially be returning for season two of the show – after its creators revealed that they have decided not to recast their character, Ellie, despite concerns of age difference.

And it seems that Bella is pretty pleased with the news, too, since they shared an adorable post on Instagram from their time working on the cult series – simply captioning the gallery: “I miss it”.

In (possibly) even cuter news, co-star Pedro Pascal immediately commented on the post by replying: “I miss u,” complete with a red heart emoji. Season two of The Last Of Us can’t come quickly enough, right?

Neil Druckmann, one of the series’ co-creators, confirmed the news that Bella will not be recast to The Wrap earlier in 2023.

“We are extremely lucky to have Bella… and the only way we would ever consider recasting Bella is if they said, ‘I don’t want to work with you guys anymore,’” he told the outlet. “And even then, we’re not sure we would grant them that. We might force them to come back this season.”

Since the next series of The Last Of Us will be set five years into the future, speculation had circulated about whether Bella would be replaced by an older actor – but the show’s creators have defended the decision to keep them on.

Craig Mazin previously pointed out to reporters: “They’re only 19 now, which by the way, is the age of Ellie in The Last of Us: Part II.”

Bella Ramsey has since said that they are up for playing the role of Ellie for as long as they can – telling Elle: “There are no limits for me. They can do as many games as they like, as many series as they like, and I’ll be here, flying back out to Canada.”
