‘Best’ solution to remove ‘tough’ grout stains without scrubbing

While grout cleaning may not be high up on the list of household chores, when they are clean it makes a real different to a bathroom. When it comes to maintaining grout, as it is a porous substance, if not properly cared for it can attract mould and mildew in bathrooms, which can build up and stain badly if not dealt with properly. It’s not just mould that causes grout to stain as those who smoke inside their house – this can cause the grout to yellow, which was the case for one woman.

Taking to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips and Tricks Facebook page, Steff Waring shared before and after photos of cleaning here bathroom tile grout.

In the first photo the grout is noticeable a bright yellow shade and in the second, the pros material is gleaming white.

Steff said: “We have recently bought our first home and we in the process of renovating it. We plan on renovating the whole bathroom late next year but for now I still wanted it to look nice in the mean time without spending a fortune.

“The grout was stained yellow from smokers. I cleaned the area before applying the product.

“I’ve tried grout pens in the past and find them not so great as they wash off after a while. Found some grout reviver paste on Amazon and it’s the best way to remove the marks. 

“You squeeze it on, leave it three to four hours, then wipe the residue off without the need to scrub.

“The results speak for themselves. Super pleased and only cost £3.50 to do. It has anti-mould barrier built in too, so it even prevents mould growth while removing tough stains.”

Later in the comments section Steff posted a picture of the product and said: “It’s amazing and a super cheap way of reviving grout. I’m so pleased I bought it.”

The name of the product Steff used is called Everbuild Forever White Grout Reviver.

According to Everbuild’s website, the product contains a “mould shield” for long lasting protection against discolouration caused by bacteria, mildew and mould growth.

Simply apply to grout lines using the easy to use applicator, allow to dry and remove any excess residue with a damp cloth.

Taking to the comments of Steph’s post, many group members were a fan of this product and have been using it on their discoloured grout.

Rachel Daniels wrote: “I used this paste all along grout lines and left it for a while and then just wiped it off with water.”

Aside from this grout reviver paste, there are others on the market which can be purchased from local DIY stores such as Screw fix and B and Q.

For those looking for a natural way of reviving grout, baking soda mixed with water to form a paste works well.

Simply combine two to one parts baking soda to water and use an old toothbrush to apply it to the grout. Leave it to sit for 10 minutes, then the dirt can be scrubbed away.
