Big boost to to help get Beatty Park into shape

Perth’s most popular gym and recreation centre is set for a major overhaul.

The City of Vincent will spend nearly $828k replacing equipment at Beatty Park Leisure Centre, which takes in more than one million visitors each year.

The new upgrades follow extensive works on the North Perth centre’s indoor pool area.

Mayor Emma Cole said improving equipment would improve the experience of gym users and keep ongoing maintenance costs down.

Strength equipment was installed in 2013, with cardio equipment last installed in 2017.

“With all equipment now outside of warranty and falling behind in terms of technology, it was seen as the right time to upgrade,” Ms Cole said.

Technogym is set to win the tender to supply cardio equipment, with Gymcare to supply the strength equipment.

The gym will close for one or two weeks during installation, with membership fees to be frozen during that time.

The Park — which will celebrate its 60th anniversary next year — has seen a surge in membership since it reopened in August, with it now recording more than 3788 members.

Ms Cole said this was positive for the community’s physical and mental health.

“The reopening of our indoor pool has brought many new people to Beatty Park and this is having a positive flow-on effect to our health and fitness areas,” she said.

“Changes to our membership fee structure have also made it more affordable and flexible for those wishing to join up for shorter periods and the recent closure of the indoor pool at Terry Tyzack Aquatic Centre has meant a lot of users from that area are coming to Beatty Park.”

New colourful water slides are also expected to be installed in the Park’s pool in January.

“We are also planning to install new universal changerooms closer to the indoor pool, which will improve accessibility for everyone using the pool and works to waterproof our grandstand will be undertaken next year,” Ms Cole said.
