Black Adam star ‘confirms’ Superman return

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been working hard to promote his new DC Comics movie, Black Adam. Over the past few months, he has been adamant that the “hierarchy of power in the DCU is about to change”, referencing Superman being the strongest hero on the big screen. Of course, this has sparked questions as to whether Black Adam, a supervillain, will come face-to-face with Clark Kent in the upcoming movie. And now, Johnson has all but confirmed that to be true.

Johnson was recently interviewed by YouTube channel Jake’s Takes, where he discussed the movie’s impact at length.

During the chat, he danced around the topic of Superman and the possibility of his return. That is until he mentioned the power dynamic of the DC Universe.

He said: “I was also listening to the fans at the same time. Where you have Black Adam, we will create Black Adam for him to be the most powerful and unstoppable force on this planet.”

With a wry smile, he followed up by referencing Superman in an oblique way.

Johnson said: “The most powerful and unstoppable in the entire universe has been on the sidelines for too long.”

As far as fans know, the most “powerful and unstoppable” force in the universe is Superman. As the last remaining Kryptonian powered by Earth’s yellow sun, he has not yet met a foe he could not defeat.

In DC Comics, Black Adam and Superman have fought multiple times, and their invulnerabilities matched up against their seemingly infinite power frequently. And it sounds like Johnson has finally succeeded in bringing the man of steel back to the big screen.

It isn’t a complete surprise, however, as Johnson has been teasing this return for months.

Johnson also acknowledged that Cavill is well-loved by fans of the DC Universe.

He noted: “You got a lot of people who advocate on Henry’s behalf and root for him to win.”

Johnson’s attempt to hide Cavill’s return follows industry insider news that the boy in blue will be getting a brand new solo movie off the back of Black Adam.

Cavill’s definitive version of Superman was last seen in a solo movie in 2013’s Man of Steel. Since then, he has appeared in some DC team-up movies, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

The silhouetted version of Cavill’s Superman was shown off at the end of the Peacemaker TV show, as well as a headless version in Shazam!

Most recently, Marvelvision host and industry insider, Devin Faraci, has claimed these failed cameos will be no more.

He said on his most recent episode that Cavill has “signed on” for a sequel to Man of Steel.

He revealed: “[Johnson] went hard, full-court press on Warner Bros and made them go to Henry Cavill with a new deal saying they were gonna develop a new Superman movie. And it was all because The Rock insisted.”

Black Adam hits cinemas on October 21.
