Bombshell Angel hair has built-in wings to hold up the shape

One winning recipe when it comes to yum hair is: swishy layers and oomph (aka volume). And one hairstyle that’s really doing that for us, is Bombshell Angel hair.

Coined by the king of layers and top LA hair stylist, Sal Salcedo – who posted a snap of phenomenal-looking hair captioned: “Bombshell Angel Hair ????✨????” to his Instagram grid – the style is exactly as heavenly as it sounds, but with equal parts attitude.

What is Bombshell Angel Hair?

Inspired by the bombshell supermodels of the ‘90s, and the Victoria’s Secret Angels on the ’00s, the hairstyle; a voluminous boob-length layered cut; hits on the perfect amount of body, movement and bounce, and references the likes of Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Adriana Lima, Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum and Doutzen Kroes.

“The hairstyle is heavily inspired by the Victoria’s Secret Angels (who themselves were an ode to Charlie’s Angels), known for their iconic hair and explosive presence. Hence, being considered a bombshell-bomb,” explains Sal.

“The hairstyle is meant to capture that classic, confident, sexy essence of an Angel,” Sal continues. “Growing up I would see the top models (most of them VS models) and I would dream of one day doing their hair as well, so this image has always been a big inspiration for the hair that I do. The whole late ’90s and early 2000s imagery is what inspired me,” he explains.

How to get the Bombshell Angel hair cut?

The key ingredients are carefully cut-in layers and some sexy face-framing pieces. “The haircut itself is a long, layered haircut with a ton of internal layers,” explains Sal. “These are what give the hair hold and keep it from collapsing. I think of the internal layering as the wings holding up the shape,” he says. As for around the face, “the front has a bit of a wingy feel with a subtle fringe that fans out,” says Sal.

How to style Bombshell Angel hair?

The cut is just part of the picture, but to get the full force of the chop, it needs to be paired with some gutsy styling. “My desire was to capture the Angels by curling, styling, pinning and setting the hair up,” explains Sal. So get yourself some rollers.

What is Bombshell Angel hair colour?

Just like the Supers and Angels paid close attention to the exact tone and dimension of their hair, Bombshell Angel hair has a palette all of its own. “Bombshell Angel hair colour is an all over colour that’s not too warm and not too cool,” explains Kelley Tang, hair colourist at Nova Arts salon. “The hair has to be bleached to achieve this colour and its bleached past the point of orange so it never fades too warm,” she says. Instead, it should perfectly complement your skin tone. “It’s a play off of the Expensive Brunette trend that was going around. Pair it with a ’90s or Y2K blowout vibe and you have the perfect Bombshell Angel hair,” says Kelley.
