Bottoms is the highly anticipated queer comedy that sees its two leads start a fight club at their high school, all in the name of empowerment and bagging the girl of their dreams.
For all of you who loved Netflix’s Do Revenge and, in general, love a wacky, fun-filled teen comedy that takes you back to the noughties, then you have to round up your girls for a trip to the cinema this August.
Firstly, the upcoming LGBTQIA+ film helmed by Canadian director Emma Seligman boasts a star cast of some of Hollywood’s “ones to watch in the future”, including actress and comedienne Rachel Sennott and supermodel Kaia Gerber, who has also shown off her acting chops in American Horror Story.
The movie is mainly an exploration of the ups and downs of the high school experience, in which two awkward high school girls try to hook up with cheerleaders by starting a self-defence group. Needless to say, when the group takes off, there is massive chaos on the school grounds as everyone begins battling it out. Sounds like just the right, light-hearted watch we all need!
So what else do we know about the raunchy teen comedy that has already won significant praise following its premiere at the SXSW film festival earlier this year in March and that is set to take over cinemas in the following months? Read on to find out more…
What is the plot of Bottoms?
The official synopsis for the hotly anticipated movie reads: “Two unpopular, queer high school students start a fight club to have sex before graduation.”
However, in starting up the unorthodox way of meeting cheerleaders to lose their virginities to, PJ and Josie find themselves in over their heads as their fight club gains traction and all the popular girls start beating each other up in the name of self-defence. Can they make it all madness stop before their plans get exposed, and they find themselves in major trouble?
