Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.

According to reports, Brentford are in talks to sign a new keeper to replace Raya who seems destined to leave the Bees this summer.

The Spain international’s current deal expires in 2024 and after turning down several long-term contract offers, Thomas Frank all but confirmed the player will be sold as he looks to cash-in on the highly-rated shot-stopper.

United, Chelsea and Spurs are all in the market for a new keeper and Raya’s distribution and ability on the ball have made him a very attractive prospect, with his eye-catching performances helping his side to ninth in the Premier League.

Of course, there is always a chance Brentford could hold onto him for another season before letting him go on a free, with a number of sides in La Liga keeping tabs on that particular situation.

However, it’s looking more likely he will depart west London this summer, with The Telegraph reporting that the Bees are negotiating with Freiburg over a deal for Dutch keeper Mark Flekken.

The 29-year-old is valued at around £10million and is currently aiming to qualify the German side for the Champions League, with Freiburg fifth in the Bundesliga and only out of the top four on goal difference.

Should the transfer go through, it would make signing Raya an easier prospect with Tottenham currently leading the race for his signature, having tracked the player for a while as they look for Hugo Lloris’ long-term replacement.

The 36-year-old club captain has struggled with form and fitness this season and will surely be replaced soon, though of course this will all depend on who their next manager will be and what he looks for in a goalkeeper.

United’s interest in Raya has dipped somewhat with the Red Devils set to extend David de Gea’s contract and focus their resources on signing a new striker and central midfielder.

De Gea has endured a mixed season, with the 32-year-old leading the race for the Premier League golden glove with 15 clean sheets in 34 games, but he has also made numerous high-profile errors, most recently in the 1-0 defeat at West Ham.

Chelsea meanwhile are looking for an upgrade on Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy, though financial issues could mean their focus this summer lies elsewhere and like Spurs they will wait until their new manager is in before making any transfer decisions.

In the meantime, Raya will be preparing for what could be his penultimate home game for Brentford against London rivals West Ham on Sunday.
