Can these two foodies agree on who makes the best Bolognese?

Shanice, 25, says:

I arrived at the restaurant, sat down and thought ‘oh he’s really cute’ you did well. Conversation was good and I don’t think there were any awkward silences at all. I’m a bit of a chatterbox so there aren’t normally many awkward silences.

He was really interested in getting to know me which was so refreshing and asked me so many questions. Gavin seems like he is a really good guy. He has great relationships with his friends and family which is also refreshing. He was also such a gentleman during the date.

There is one red flag with Gavin. He wakes up every morning and does an ice bath. He was trying to convince me to give it a go so this morning I started light and tried a cold shower. I was like ‘nope, this is just so wrong’, my body isn’t built for that. My body is built for ostentatious cocktails and scented body lotion.

Gavin is also a very outdoorsy person, I am not. I’ll give it a crack though, but I just don’t think it’s for me. I don’t think that will be a problem though, I’ve dated outdoorsy guys before. But what we did have in common was our love for food and cooking. Some people say they love cooking and food but they mean they make a good toasted sandwich. We are not like that. We love food. We did end up having a bit of an altercation during the date after I told him how I make the best Bolognese and he thinks that he makes the best Bolognese which is impossible.

We ended up being the last people in the restaurant. Drinks were flowing and we were having great chats. When we were leaving, he covered the rest of the bill and put my jacket on me which was so sweet. We have organised to see each other again this Saturday and go on another date. We are planning on going to an Italian place that has a Bolognese second-best to mine.

Gavin, 30, says:

I don’t get nervous very often but I was super nervous going into this. I ended up arriving about five minutes early, and my date arrived about five minutes late. In that 10 minutes between, I was sitting there thinking, ‘Oh my God, I have been stood up’. I kept seeing people walk in by themselves and thinking, is that her, that must be her, to then have them walk to their table. I was just so filled with nerves.

My first impression of Shanice was, ‘wow, she is stunning’ , absolutely gorgeous. She had an amazing energy, was very intelligent and chatty. There wasn’t any awkward silences or anything like that. It ended up being a really great date.

We spoke about a lot of different topics. Family, what she likes, hobbies and work, all that sort of stuff. Basically all of your basic first date questions. We found common ground with our love for good food and travel. She also likes to keep fit and healthy, and so do I.

We had some good laughs during the date. I can’t really recall what we laughed about, that’s probably due to the wines, but I do remember laughing a lot. We were having a great time. Conversation flowed, so did the drinks. I had about four wines, she had some cocktails and we ordered some share plates. I ended up waking up with a bit of a sore head actually.

I applied for Blind Date because I was just so over Tinder and other apps. I deleted the app for a long period of time then recently downloaded it again, to end up deleting it shortly after. I prefer to meet people out and about, the natural way. I thought this would be an interesting way to meet someone new and more aligned with how I like to meet people.

Shanice and I have already organised another date. We both love Italian so we are going to a place she recommended which I am excited about. You can’t go wrong with Italian.
