Recently, many canines and their parents came together at the financial centre of Nigeria, Lagos. They came together to participate in the third-ever Lagos Dog Carnival that was held on December 11, 2021. Since the theme for this year’s carnival was “Back to School”, the furry participants were dressed in colourful school uniforms, wore sunglasses and even carried a school bag.

According to the Lagos Dog Carnival Organizers, the third carnival held was bigger and better than the previous carnivals. As per them, the main purpose for organizing this event was to bring pet parents together so that they could bond with other pet parents and learn how to look after their furry ones in a better way from each other.

While speaking to Reuters, one of the organizers of the Dog Carnival, Jackie Idimogu stated that this edition of the carnival was bigger and better than the previous ones. The number of canines that participated this year was more than 250, it was twice the number of participants they received the previous year.

At the carnival, they had organized awards for canines. The first award was for a “Head Boy”, canine having the cleanest school uniform, the second award was for “Punctuality Prefect”, being punctual meaning the one who arrived on time and the third award was for the “Most Noisemaker”.

A white-haired golden retriever, Canada won the “Head Boy” award. He was wearing a bright green coloured uniform that had stripes on it and was carrying a school bag. A bulldog named Ivory took home the “Punctuality Prefect” award for being the first one to arrive at the carnival. A golden retriever, Oscar made his parents proud with the “Most Noisemaker” award.

A feline made a special appearance at the dog carnival. The tabby received an attendance award.

Jackie Idimogu further stated that this carnival has helped raise awareness among people on keeping canines as pets. She mentioned that they have plans to extend this event to other cities across Nigeria in the years to come.
