The Boston Celtics are currently slated to go their third straight year without a first-round pick.
Boston’s No. 29 selection goes to the Indiana Pacers as part of last year’s Malcolm Brogdon deal. However, they own pick No. 35 from the Portland Trail Blazers.
According to The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor, the Celtics have “explored trades” involving the second-round selection and Payton Pritchard to move up into the first.
Pritchard has averaged 6.6 points per game in three seasons since Boston made him the No. 26 pick in 2020. He didn’t see much meaningful postseason playing time in a crowded Celtics backcourt, creating some uncertainty about his future with the organization.
However, The Boston Globe‘s Adam Himmelsbach said the Celtics remain high” on Pritchard, so they wouldn’t part with him lightly.
O’Connor identified Boston as one of three teams who have talked to the Atlanta Hawks about the No. 15 pick. He projected the Celtics to draft Andre Jackson Jr. if they stay put on Thursday night.
