As any athlete who has played there will tell you, the altitude difference in Colorado is serious. Denver is called the Mile High city for a reason, and the Miami Heat will have to deal with that altitude for the course of the NBA Finals.
So too, apparently, will the broadcasters on hand to cover the games in Denver.
Charles Barkley and Grant Hill, who are covering the Finals for NBA TV, had a little fun with the altitude ahead of Thursday’s Game 1.

Hill and Barkley donned oxygen masks as they sat on court in Denver’s Ball Arena. The pair could be seen laughing as they tried to put on the masks, with Hill having far more success than Barkley.
Given the way that professional sports have gone in the city of Denver recently, there could be some truth to the belief that the altitude has an effect on opposing teams. The Nuggets have an outstanding record at home, and have yet to lose a home game in these NBA Playoffs.
The Colorado Avalanche stormed through the NHL’s playoffs last year to claim the Stanley Cup, a team that plays in the very same arena as the Nuggets.
At least the Heat can say this: if Charles Barkley can deal with the high altitude, so can we.
