Liverpool target Levi Colwill has been spotted wearing a Reds shirt in a resurfaced picture from his childhood years. The Chelsea and England U21 starlet has been linked with a blockbuster switch to Anfield amid an uncertain future under Mauricio Pochettino.

The 20-year-old will reportedly return to Chelsea for talks with new head coach Pochettino once England have concluded their U21 European Championship campaign. The Young Lions have made the final in Georgia, with Colwill impressing.

His excellent performances on the international stage, having also trained with Gareth Southgate’s senior team this summer, have further increased speculation of a departure. Liverpool, Manchester City and former loan club Brighton are supposedly interested in permanent deals.

Colwill was supposedly a Liverpool fan growing up and has admitted to idolising Anfield great Steven Gerrard. And Reds supporters have noticed a picture of the centre-back wearing the club’s strip as a child.

When Colwill made his Premier League debut for Brighton against Manchester United last season, a former coach shared a throwback photo of a team featuring the Chelsea prospect. Colwill is seen at the front wearing a Liverpool kit.

@levi_colwill making his debut at Old Trafford today,” Lee Hudson wrote in August 2022. “Would only be right for me to share this picture of him in a Liverpool shirt. Absolute pleasure playing a small part in your development mate. Well done on today’s win.”

Colwill has previously revealed that he had posters of Gerrard on his bedroom wall as a child, making the prospect of a move to Liverpool enticing for the young defender. He said he would dress like and wear the same boots as the former midfielder.

“Growing up [my idol] was always Steven Gerrard, I would be watching him, he’s a leader. I was just amazed by him, I used to have pictures of him in my room,” Colwill told Goal in 2021.

“I was always trying to copy him before I was playing football. I always dressed up as him, I had the same boots. That was it.

“I just looked up to him. Obviously, I wasn’t really ever a central midfielder, but I always tried to have the same mentality as him. It just went from there.”

According to the Evening Standard, Liverpool are one of the clubs circling should Colwill decide to leave Chelsea this summer. After the U21 Euros, he will meet with Pochettino to discuss his future but will supposedly insist that he gets regular game time at Stamford Bridge.
