Claim That Kim Kardashian Damaged Marilyn Monroe Dress Addressed by Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Rep

By now,  you’ve heard a thing or three about claims surrounding alleged damage done to a revered Marilyn Monroe dress by Kim Kardashian, who wore the dress to this year’s Met Gala.

A representative for Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, however, is refuting these claims. Per a report from TMZ, which pointed out that Ripley’s purchased the dress in question for nearly $5 million back in 2016, the rep cited an assessment of the dress’ condition “in early 2017” as having highlighted several “pulled and worn” seams. Other damage, including “puckering” in certain areas of the piece, were also said to have been identified at the time.

In other words, at least according to TMZ, the photo in a side-by-side edit that’s been making the rounds recently alleging to show what the dress looked like prior to Kardashian wearing it was actually captured prior to Ripley’s having it in their possession.

The new report also includes more insight from another Ripley’s vice president of publishing and licensing, Amanda Joiner, who was with Kardashian the night the dress was worn and noted the garment was returned in the “same condition” it was in prior to the evening’s festivities.

Previously, the Ripley’s team explained the “great care” those involved took to preserve this unique piece of pop culture history, including having Kardashian change into a replica of the dress after walking the carpet. This info was disclosed at the top of last month.
