Flies and ants are present all year round but homeowners may have noticed more of the pesky pests entering their homes.

Flies can be spotted all year round, however, their breeding cycles and soaring temperatures mean they’re more active than usual.

Ants often make their way indoors in the summer months because they’re more active during this season.

They often enter homes ins search for water, food and shelter. Homeowners may notice them crawling around during particularly dry periods.

There are also 2.5 million ants for every human in the world so it’s not surprising that the occasional ant makes its way indoors during the summer.

However, banishing ants and flies from homes can be difficult, especially if there’s an infestation.

Luckily, Lynsey Crombie, in partnership with Dr. Beckmann, has spoken exclusively to Express.co.uk about how to banish flies and ants from homes using household items.

Lynsey is one of the UK’s most popular cleaning influencers, sharing tips and tricks with her audience of over 300,000 followers on Instagram.

The cleaning influencer also regularly features on ITV’s This Morning as their resident cleaning expert.

She told Express.co.uk: “A small bowl of apple cider of vinegar on the windowsill will help keeps flies at bay.

“Ensure you regularly empty and clean your bin and use talcum powder or chalk around your entrances to stop ants coming in.”

Talcum powder is a safe method to use around children and pets and works by breaking the ants’ pheromone trail.

The powder is adorned through their skin, clogging up their airways, eventually killing them.

The apple cider vinegar tempts flies because it’s sweet. The flies drown when they investigate the solution.

Both household items are relatively affordable and can be bought online or from local supermarkets.

Johnson’s Baby Powder costs £1.09 from The Range and Medipure Medicated Body Powder costs £1 from Savers.

ASDA Cider Vinegar costs 1.30 from Asda and Aspall Classic Apple Cyder Vinegar costs £1.48 from Ocado.
