Clerks III Clip Has Randal Plotting Out His Quick Stop Movie

A new clip has been released for Clerks III. Officially, the sequel will hit theaters courtesy of Lionsgate and Fathom Events in September, and the promotion continues as we draw nearer to the premiere date. It follows Randal Graves (Jeff Anderson) plotting out a film to make about his life as a Quick Stop clerk with the help of his co-worker and best pal Dante Hicks (Brian O’Halloran). The two are putting together ideas for their film in the new clip, which you can see below.

In the clip, Randal describes how he plans to fill his movie with a lot of things he and Dante had seen and done at the Quick Stop over the years. The two then reference events seen in the original Clerks film as examples of moments that would make for funny scenes. Randal names playing hockey on the roof, one of the most memorable moments of Clerks, as something he wants to incorporate.

“It’s my flick so I want to write about the things that I do,” Randal says. “Like how we played hockey on the rooftop. I’ve never seen that done in a movie or TV show, even though it’s just f***ing practical.”

After the duo talk about a few more ideas, it is recommended to them by Elias (Trevor Fehrman) that they could make Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) characters in the film. Though we can be sure he will change his mind, Randal comes back with this response:

“That is the dumbest idea I have ever heard.”

Clerks III goes deep into meta comedy by mirroring how writer-director Kevin Smith had similarly made a movie at Quick Stop while he was working there as an employee at the time. There will be many meta moments for fans to expect such as recreating different scenes that were shown in the first Clerks film. Randal gets the idea to make the movie after suffering a near-fatal heart attack, another idea that was incorporated into the screenplay after Smith was inspired by his own real-life heart attack.

Major players from the franchise are also coming back to help conclude the trilogy. Joining Smith, Jason Mewes, Jeff Anderson, and Brian O’Halloran from the original film are Marilyn Ghigliotti as Dante’s ex-girlfriend Veronica and Scott Schiaffo as the Chewlie’s gum representative. Rosario Dawson and Trevor Fehrman from Clerks II also return. Chances are there will be many other surprises in store.
