Conor McGregor makes plea to Eddie Hearn after Carl Froch callout

Conor McGregor has pleaded with Eddie Hearn to set up a crossover bout with former boxing champion Carl Froch, who recently declared that he would beat the Irishman in a cage fight. McGregor has not entered the ring since losing at the hands of Dustin Poirier in their third meeting back in 2021, while Froch has been retired since 2015.

The Cobra appears to be entertaining the idea of a return against McGregor, though, after insisting earlier this month that he would be willing to face the two-weight UFC champion in his own domain.

“I would fight Conor McGregor in the cage,” said Froch on his own YouTube channel. “I could be getting myself in trouble here, or into a position that I can’t wiggle out of, but I think I would take him on in the cage. Is that ridiculous? Is that wrong? I’d take him on in the cage. He is too small, isn’t he?”

McGregor has since issued a brief response to Froch’s comments via Twitter by posting a laughing emoji before tagging Hearn and adding: “Get this signed up lad.”

The pair have exchanged verbal blows on a number of previous occasions, with McGregor threatening Froch in a seemingly unprovoked attack on Twitter last summer when he wrote in a since-deleted post: “That Froch tick, little scrawny pencil neck… I’ll grab his head and twist it clean off at a oner with my bare hands.

“Little wally of a thing. I’ll slap you around you little toffee nose t******,” added the Irishman, before Froch replied with: “Who is this mouthy little p**** talking to? I will drag you outside with that wispy beard and show you how the big boys do it.”

It remains to be seen whether a blockbuster fight between McGregor and Froch will eventually come to fruition, although a boxing match against Jake Paul could emerge as another option for the latter if he is denied the chance to face The Notorious in the cage. Froch has been highly critical of Paul since his defeat at the hands of Tommy Fury last month and even went as far as saying that he would be willing to fight the American and his brother, Logan, on the same night.

“Jake Paul and Logan Paul on the same night would be interesting,” said Froch. “I’d fight them both on the same night and they can tag each other.

“Or maybe get Logan on the undercard as we’ve not seen him for a while as a nice little warm up for me, a steady few rounds until I decide to knock him el sparko. And then I can fight his brother Jake on top of the bill as the main event and make mincemeat of him, what a night that would be.”
