Michael Clarke’s latest lucrative career move is now hanging by a thread in the wake of the cricket legend’s wild public spat with his girlfriend and television heavyweight Karl Stefanovic.
The former Australian captain was due to head to India next month as part of the Board for Cricket Control in India’s commentary team for his former team’s significant Test tour of the country.
But the BCCI is now reconsidering his position on their broadcast team, where he was due to provide an Australian voice alongside fellow former great Matthew Hayden.
Clarke hit the headlines this week when vision emerged of the fight, filmed by one of many stunned onlookers in a park in Noosa involving his girlfriend Jade Yarbrough, her sister and Channel 9 personality Stefanovic.
Queensland Police are investigating the incident.
It’s the latest in a long line of off-field scandals for Clarke both during his cricket career and since his Test retirement in 2015.
The trip to India was referenced in the video, in which Yarbrough claims Clarke cheated on her.
“You want to send her to India with you?” she yells.
“’You’re the love of my life Pip, come with me to India.”
The Daily Telegraph is reporting the BCCI will privately review Clarke’s position in the coming days.
The 41-year-old will return to The Big Sports Breakfast Show, which he hosts, in Sydney on Monday and is expected to address the video again, having already spoken out once since it emerged.
“I’m absolutely gutted I’ve put people I hold in the highest regard in this position. My actions in the lead-up to this altercation were nothing short of shameful and regrettable,” he said.
“I am shattered that because of my actions I’ve drawn women of class and integrity, and my mates, into this situation.
“I own this fully and am the only one at fault.”
