Furman brought the chaos to opening hours of March Madness, knocking off Virgina. You won’t want to miss video of their game-winner.

You know the upsets are coming at some point, but in some years it takes a while to see the Madness in March Madness. In 2023, it didn’t take long.

Furman vs. Virginia was the second game to tip off on Thursday morning and saw No. 13 Furman pull out the win in dramatic fashion. Furman trailed by four points with just 12 seconds left. A pair of free throws from Garrett Hien closed the gap to two. On the ensuing inbounds play, Furman trapped Kihei Clark in the corner, forcing a wild pass that turned into a steal and a wide-open, game-winning 3-pointer with 2.8 seconds left on the clock.

It was a breathtaking turn of fortune for both teams and the courtside angle of the game-winner is must-see.

Who does Furman play next in March Madness?

After pulling out the miraculous win, Furman will face the winner of No. 6-seeded San Diego State and No. 11-seeded College of Charleston. If Furman was able to pull out a second win, they would become just the fourth No. 13 seed in tournament history to make the Sweet Sixteen. FiveThirtyEight’s projection model gives them a 32 percent chance of pulling that off, a four percent chance of making the Elite Eight and just a one percent chance of making the Final Four with Maryland and Alabama also lurking on that side of the bracket.
