Crown Perth’s chefs de cuisine join forces on June 1 for the inaugural Culinary Celebration of WA.

The head chefs of Nobu, Silks, Bistro Guillaume and Modo Mio, plus Crown’s dessert king Lashintan Muthumala Patabendige, will team up to showcase top local produce in a special dinner held at Crystal Club, the private lounge located on level 15 of Crown Towers with incredible, sweeping views of the Swan River and city.

Guests will receive a welcome cocktail by The Waiting Room on arrival before beginning their four-course meal, starring local ingredients ranging from Fremantle octopus and Shark Bay scallops to Manjiumup marron and Harvey beef, with each dish complemented by wines from WA’s own Leeuwin Estate Art Series.

Think of it like a culinary Justice League or Young Divas, although it is hard to say who is Batman or Jessica Mauboy in this scenario.

Boasting a natural flair for innovative Asian cuisine, wonder woman Pingping Poh was appointed the first female chef de cuisine of Crown Perth’s Nobu in 2021.

The Malaysian-raised chef started her career at Crown as an apprentice chef in 2009.

Kwan Cheung has led the team at Silks for a decade, offering a deft balance between traditional and cutting edge Cantonese dishes.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary at Crown Perth late last year with a spectacular champagne dinner, the award-winning Bistro Guillaume carries on with chef Robert Murphy’s steady hand and a menu bursting with French classics.

Living by the code that “good food is the basis of true happiness”, Murphy has cooked for Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and other superstars, as well as celebrity chefs Heston Blumenthal, Matt Preston, Manu Fidel and Neil Perry.

The new kid on the block is Antonio Badagliacca, the newly appointed head chef at Crown’s Italian restaurant Modo Mio.

Actually, that’s not fair. Badagliacca has been at Modo Mio for five years, working his way up from senior chef de partie, and he started his kitchen career in 2006 when he landed an apprentice chef role at the Ramada Hotel in his home town of Oleggio in Italy’s Piedmont region.

He moved to Australia a decade ago.

Finally, French-trained Patabendige (known to most folks as Muthu) creates sweet treats across the various venues in Crown Perth.

That’s the dream team, now the brass tacks.

Crown’s inaugural Culinary Celebration of WA is at Crystal Club on June 1 from 6.30pm and costs $295 per person.
