Crunchyroll Announces Exciting News at Anime Expo

Crunchyroll shared plenty of exciting news during their Industry Panel at Anime Expo 2023. On July 3, the streaming service revealed its new acquisitions, premiered several trailers, and provided Anime Expo attendees with a glimpse at some pieces from their upcoming streetwear collaboration. Guests were thrilled to learn that Black Butler would (finally) return for a fourth season. Black Butler began as a Manga back in 2006, and was adapted as a 24-episode anime in 2008. The third season of the beloved series, which follows 12-year-old Ciel Phantomhive in Victorian England, aired back in 2014. The trailer for its upcoming season is below.



Audiences were also excited to watch a brand-new trailer (which you can watch below) for the upcoming Solo Leveling, which premieres on the streamer next winter. Based on the popular South Korean web novel series by Chugong, Solo Leveling follows the story of its protagonist, a weak hunter named Sung Jinwoo. Sung Jinwoo lives in a world where hunters and humans with magical abilities must battle deadly monsters to protect the human race. After a brush with death, a program called the System elects Sung Jinwoo as its lone player, giving him the ability to gain unlimited strength. The trailer introduces audiences to some of the series characters including Sung Jinwoo,Yoo Jinho, and Baaek Yoonho.

During the Industry Panel, Crunchyroll also announced a number of new acquisitions, including The Apothecary Diaries, The Faraway Paladin: The Lord of Rust Mountain, GOBLIN SLAYER Season 2, and The Kingdoms of Ruin, all set for release later this year. Two other acquisitions, I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince So I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability and Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki 2nd Stage will head to Crunchyroll in 2024. The acquisition of BeDream’s To Be Hero X was also announced, but a release date is currently unknown.

Crunchyroll NBA Collaboration

Besides revealing new content, Crunchyroll shared a look at some items for My Hero Academia, a streetwear collaboration with TOHO animation, HYPERFLY, the National Basketball Association (NBA), and NBALAB. The streetwear line will debut selected items during this year’s NBA Con, held in Las Vegas from July 7-9. All merchandise from the collaboration is set to launch later this fall.

Although not revealed during their Industry Panel, Crunchyroll also announce that BUCCHIGIRI?! will be available January 2024. The anime is described as “a story of delinquents meets Arabian Nights.” New trailers for KamiErabi GOD.app and Metallic Rouge premiered during Fuji TV’s “+Ultra” Panel; KamiErabi GOD.app will premiere on Crunchyroll this October, while Metallic Rouge will join the site in January 2024.

For those wanting to get in on the anime and Manga action, Crunchyroll is currently available on over 15 platforms, including gaming consoles. Crunchyroll is known for their online content and is available in over 200 countries and territories, but the entertainment company also looks to unite anime and Manga fans through events, games, consumer products, collectibles, and publishing.
