Curfew concerns, logistical challenges, and crowded trams did little to diminish the energy and excitement for Taylor Swift’s second sold-out performance at Levi’s Stadium on Saturday night.
After the performance on Friday night ran nearly 40 minutes past Santa Clara’s 11 p.m. curfew, at least some concertgoers found themselves struggling to return home in the wee hours of the morning.
One fan, Donna Musick, said she found herself stranded at the Milpitas BART with her daughter at 1:00 a.m. after missing the last train north.
“I can absolutely attest that there were at least a few hundred stranded concertgoers who had to scramble to find Uber, Lyft or other means to get to where they needed to go,” Musick wrote in an email to this news organization. “It was unconscionable that they would leave so many stranded in the early hours.”
BART had not yet returned a request to comment.
Still, regardless of the previous night’s challenges, on Saturday afternoon thousands of fans were again converging on Levi’s Stadium in a collage of color, cowboy hats, and bedazzled dresses.
“It’s magical the way she does her production,” said Cora Buel, who attended the first show Friday night and returned to watch the second performance from the parking lot. “She puts so much energy and thought into everything she does.”
Buel, a fan from Daly City, was unsurprised that Swift performed past the curfew Friday night. Having seen Swift play before, and knowing that the concert was expected to span four albums worth of material, Buel said she was prepared.
“It’s what you expect,” Buel said, “and it was still fantastic.”
Some fans, like Jasmine Roverso, trying to find last minute tickets outside the stadium with a friend, said she would likely leave the concert earlier after hearing stories of people being stranded. Other fans, like the Feinsmith family, advocated for concert goers to make use of the free valet bike parking at the event.
“The trains, they are doubling up the cars, and the bike parking is free and monitored,” Jason Feinsmith said, “Why wouldn’t you bike here?”
Ultimately, at least for Buel, there was no question whether transportation concerns or parking costs were worse than the hassle.
“It’s so powerful, her being here,” Buel said. “It creates this energy.”
