And with the abundance of sixes in the game, we often see some decent catches in the crowd. The spectators in the ground are never shy to get their bodies on the line to grab a catch and get a piece of the camerawork.

And in the ongoing T20 blast, we have seen another one of crowd catches, but it has a different tinge to it. During a game between Gloucestershire and Kent in the T20 Blast 2023 on Saturday (June 17), a six off David Payne’s bat was caught spectacularly by a fan, but he didn’t catch it in the stands, rather from his apartment’s balcony.

In Bristol, apartments are built on one side of the ground and the residents can enjoy matches from their balconies.

In the final over of the match, Gloucestershire batter David Payne went berserk. He hit the first ball for a four, and in order to up the scoring (they were 131 for 9 at 19.1 overs), went for a maximum in the second ball. The ball connected properly and sailed over long on for a six, and it ended up on the balcony of a person.

A person, standing at the balcony took a fantastic catch. And not only did he grab the catch, but saved his partner as well who was sitting beside him and could have been injured gravely had it hit her.

Payne’s blitzkrieg ended in the next ball though as Gloucestershire managed 137 runs. Their opponents Kent chased it comfortably with three overs to spare.

Gloucestershire are currently sitting 7th in the South Group of T20 Blast while Kent are two places above them.
