Day two of music festival cancelled over ‘adverse weather conditions’

Organisers of a Scottish music festival were forced to cancel the second day of performances due to high winds.

Youth Beatz in Dumfries fell foul of “adverse weather conditions” on Sunday after hosting the likes of Ella Eyre and Pixie Lott 24 hours earlier.

Conditions had also forced the opening of the gates at the free event in Park Farm, which was taking place for the first time since the Covid lockdown, to be delayed.

However, 50mph winds brought a “much greater danger” to fans, forcing organisers to take the “devastating” decision to cancel the event.

A statement read: “Due to the volume of stages, marquees, and activities on site we would be risking the safety of all of our attendees, volunteers, contractors, performers and staff team if we went ahead.

“This decision was taken by event organisers in agreement with all our safety partners.

Whilst many see Youth Beatz Festival as a two-day festival, there has been months upon months of work put in to bring the event to life by our volunteers and Youth Work Team.”

Acts on Sunday were due to include The Vengaboys and John Newman.

The festival, described as Scotland’s largest free music event, has been held in Dumfries since 2009.

“This is not an announcement we want to make, nor is it one we are making lightly,” organisers added.

“Unfortunately, we just cannot control the weather. We cannot put into words our sadness at this announcement.”
