Dead Ringers is the hotly-anticipated new series starring Rachel Weisz that will undoubtedly have people talking once it lands on Prime Video in April.

The six-part series is a remake of the classic 1988 psychological thriller movie by David Cronenberg, which had Jeremy Irons in its lead double role of twisted twin doctors. In the new gender-flipped adaptation, 52-year-old British actress Rachel will take on the part of the twin gynaecologists who push the boundaries of medical ethics.

What is the plot of Dead Ringers?

A modern take on David Cronenberg’s 1988 thriller, Dead Ringers is described as a “thrilling tale about ambition, self-interest, and the manipulation of power”.

Rachel takes on the role of both identical twin doctors Elliot and Beverly Mantle, who “share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes – including pushing the boundaries of medical ethics – in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s health care to the forefront.” While Elliot and Beverly have good intentions, the consequences of their actions will play out throughout the series, and the deterioration of their sisterly relationship will be explored.

The 1988 movie was based on the 1977 novel Twins by Bari Wood and Jack Geasland, which was loosely based on the true story of twin gynaecologists Stewart and Cyril Marcus.
