Deion Sanders to have more surgeries on foot, leg for blood clots after procedure last month

Deion “Prime” Sanders, the former NFL star turned University of Colorado head coach, will miss out on Pac-12 media day due to another blood clot procedure as well as additional surgeries on his foot.

“I apologize that I’m not going to be at the Pac-12 media day to have another surgery tomorrow,” Sanders announced in a Youtube video Wednesday.

Sanders underwent surgery in June to remove blood clots in his left leg, though a school official announced he will undergo a “routine follow-up” to get rid of blood clots in his right leg.

“They already took care and got them out of this leg,” Sanders added. “Now, we gotta get them out of there.”

Sanders made it known before his first procedure that he would need multiple surgeries to remove both blood clots to improve blood flow in his legs.

Doctors amputated two toes from Sanders’ left foot to improve circulation issues while he coached at Jackson State in 2021.

Last month, Sanders reassured fans that doctors will not amputate his foot at this time.

“There’s no talk of amputation,” Sanders said in another video. “The doctor was just telling me worst comes to worst, that [amputating the foot] was gonna happen. But I believe in staying right so we never have to take that left.

Sanders is poised to revamp a Colorado football team that’s given him the keys after the school announced him as their new head coach in December.

Since his hiring, over 55 Colorado players on the team headed for the transfer portal.

“I’m bringing my luggage with me,” Sanders emphasized at the very beginning of his hiring — indicating to those on the team he was making big changes to the roster.

Colorado announced defensive coordinator Charles Kelly is set to fill in for Sanders at Pac-12 media day, joined by the team’s quarterback Shedeur Sanders — Sanders’ son — and star defensive back Travis Hunter.

Colorado will travel to Texas to play the TCU Horned Frogs to kick off their 2023-24 regular season on Sept. 2.
