David Tennant, 52, is one of the UK’s most famous actors, starring in British classics including the BBC’s science fiction series Doctor Who and the Harry Potter film franchise.

In spite of being a household name, David is yet to receive a BAFTA award – or even a nomination – in recognition of his stellar acting skills.

David appeared as the Doctor in Russell T Davies’ revival of Doctor Who between 2005 and 2010 – and he is still widely regarded by many as their favourite version of the character.

He has also won critical acclaim for his roles in Broadchurch, Good Omens and Hamlet.

At this year’s BAFTAs, David had a witty exchange with former co-star Catherine Tate, 53, where the comedian complained about her six nominations and zero awards.

“Then, when I left drama school, I didn’t get a job for about six weeks. I was abjectly skint, no

prospects at all, staring into the abyss.

“Then I got lucky, got a job and began picking up all kinds of ludicrous gigs to pay the bills.

“I remember filming adverts for [early on-demand service] HomeChoice in 2000, shouting in a beret like Citizen Smith in a tank on Leamington Spa High Street.

“Then I’d do Romeo and Juliet at the RSC in the evenings!” he continued.

David confirmed how happy he was to get such amazing opportunities, adding: “I am incredibly fortunate to be working consistently, so it would be really churlish to get worked up about the rest of it.”

While David hasn’t won a traditional BAFTA, the star has scooped up best actor awards for his performances in both Doctor Who and The Escape Artist from BAFTA Cymru and BAFTA Scotland respectively.

The actor has also picked up two Emmy Awards for his work in 2013’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars and 2021’s Des.
