The EFL is to split over the number of substitutes allowed from next season, Mail Sport has learned.
Following recent votes, Championship clubs will increase their benches from seven to nine for the new campaign, while their counterparts in Leagues One and Two will remain at seven.
However, five changes will continue to be permitted at all levels.
An announcement is due imminently but the move will usher in what could be viewed as a key change between the leagues within the competition.
Many believe that the gap between the Championship and the two leagues below it is widening.

It is thought clubs in the second tier, armed in many cases with larger resources, wanted to increase the number of subs allowed for a variety of reasons including player welfare.
However, lower down the pecking order the increased costs were a key consideration. With money tight, some did not want to commit to the extra spend on hotel rooms and travel for away matches.
