Emmy Rossum’s perfect response to playing Tom Holland’s mum in The Crowded Room despite ten year age gap IRL

Emmy Rossum has defended her role playing the mother of Tom Holland’s character in the new series, The Crowded Room, despite being only ten years older than him in real life.

The new Apple TV+ series centres on Tom’s role of Danny Sullivan, who, while being plagued by mental health issues, is quizzed by detective Rya Goodwin (played by Emmy winner Amanda Seyfried) as she tries to uncover his mysterious past following his arrest in connection with a shooting. Ooo, sounds intense!

However, a lot of people have been surprised by Emmy’s casting in the role of Danny’s mother, Candy, with the pair’s ten-year age gap IRL being brought up as the reason why.

But Shameless star Emmy had the perfect response, stating: “It makes sense when I read the script.”

She added to Entertainment Tonight: “Candy’s a super young mom. She’s almost a child in her own right when she becomes pregnant at age 16.” Emmy added: “You watch as I age from 25 to 35, which is actually younger than I am now.”

Emmy Rossum is currently 36 years old, while Tom is 27.

The actress also said she agreed to do the role mainly because she “fell in love with the relationship between mother and son and the closeness and everything that they’re grieving in later episodes.”

Nonetheless, The Crowded Room, created by Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman, is set to leave us completely speechless thanks to its never-ending twists and turns.

It is also set to be an essential watch as it will explore the brutal realities of an individual’s personal experience told through the dangerous eyes of an unreliable narrator while also shining a light on mental health within young males.

The first three episodes of The Crowded Room will hit Apple TV+ globally on 9 June, with the rest of its ten episodes on a weekly schedule every Friday until 28 July.
