In the second innings, the southpaw got a start and scored 36 off 57 including four boundaries but was dismissed by Ollie Robinson before he could convert it into a big score.
However, that did not stop Warner from entering a very elite list of legendary batters. During the course of his innings he broke into the top-five list of openers with most runs as an opener in Test cricket.
Warner went past former India opener Virender Sehwag who scored 8207 runs in 99 matches at an average of 50.04. Sehwag smashed 22 hundreds and 30 fifties as an opener. The Australian now has 8208 runs in 105 matches at an average of 45.60. Warner has slammed 25 hundred in the position.
Former England captain Alastair Cook leads the chart with 11845 runs at an average of 44.86. India batting legend Sunil Gavaskar is second on the list with 9607 runs at an average of 50.29.
Talking about the Ashes 2023 first Test, Australia need 174 runs with seven wickets in hand on Day 5.
