The ‘Negreira Case’ continues to take new steps. The newspaper El Mundo reported this Friday that the former vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees threatened Barcelona in 2018 when Bartomeu told him that they would not continue working together. The information signed by Esteban Urreiztieta and Orfeo Suárez explains the burofax sent by Enríquez Negreira to the then president of Barça.
“My surprise has been huge. After all this time together, I take it as an absolutely unjustified personal insult,” began the text he sent to Bartomeu and his board. After these first cordial words, he gave way to threats. “I have the firm intention of filing a complaint before the courts, which will surely have negative consequences. Until now I have not started these actions to, precisely, avoid serious consequences, hoping to reach a due understanding with my claim. I do not believe that another scandal favors the club”, affirmed Negreira.
However, in the final part of the letter a change in attitude can be seen: “Despite this, and despite being within my right to publicly inform the authority of everything that I know and can prove, and which perfectly contextualizes the scenario in which I have moved and related to you and the previous presidents, I do not want to miss the opportunity to reach a fair agreement for both parties”.
We remember that Negreira received 6,659,488 euros, without VAT, from FC Barcelona since 2001. The first payment was with Joan Gaspart as president, although he denies it.
Emphasizing what is most surprising about Negreira’s message to Bartomeu is the following section: “Everything that I know and can prove and that perfectly contextualizes the scenario in which I have moved and related to you and the previous presidents. If there is no agreement, all the irregularities will come out.”
At the moment, it is unknown if the Barcelona crime exists. But as the hours go by, more evidence is coming out that indicates that the agreement between Negreira and the culé club consisted of putting pressure on the referees due to the contracted external service.
