Christian Eriksen says he is confident home comforts will deliver the two wins United need to book their place in the Champions League next season. But the United midfielder maintained that Erik ten Hag’s men need to improve their form on the road if they are to kick on next season.
“First of all we need to finish the season strong with a perfect home record but it’s definitely something that we need to do,” he said. “In the end, of course, for next season, we need to be as good as at home, but also away. And then it’s going to be a fun season.”
United have been solid at Old Trafford winning 13 of their 17 games but vulnerable on the road taking maximum points from just seven out of 18 games.
“We know where we can pick up extra points, because at home, at the moment we’re feeling very, very secure. But when you lose two games, the extra pressure is on. We’ve shown the character and the quality to be where we are. We’re just going to focus on us. For us, it has to be three wins in the last three games.”
The 2-0 victory over Wolves on Saturday was welcomed by those at Old Trafford after back-to-back 1-0 defeats away to Brighton and West Ham, opening the door for Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp’s outfit have turned their season around and will hope to push United all the way to finish in the top four.
Liverpool are four points behind United as both teams have three remaining fixtures, the first of which comes today (Monday) as Klopp’s side travel to relegation-threatened Leicester. If they were to fail to secure all three points at the King Power, United would be firmly in place for a top-four finish as just one more win would likely be required.
