The Aaradhya Bachchan case has been making headlines today. For those who don’t know, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on behalf of their daughter have taken legal discourse against some content on YouTube. Certain videos on YouTube alleged that Aaradhya was going through some critical illness. Now calling out these videos, the Bachchans have moved to court seeking action against these videos defaming Amitabh Bachchan‘s granddaughter.

Lawyers Ameet Naik, Dayan Krishnan, and Pravin Anand from Anand and Naik Associates represented the case in the Delhi High Court today. The lawyers have now demanded an injunction to restrain the creation or circulation of such videos.

What is the Aaradhya Bachchan case all about…

For those who don’t know, Aishwarya and Abhishek filed a suit in Delhi High Court seeking an injunction against several channels on YouTube to takedown or restrain them from posting fake news about her death / critical illness. The Aaradhya Bachchan case has been registered on three grounds – defamation, breach of privacy, and infringement of personality rights.

We spoke to Lawyer Ameet Naik some time back for an update about the case. Exclusively speaking to us, Ameet shared…

We need to protect the dignity and respect of a celebrity child or otherwise. Everyone has a right to privacy, to not be defamed, so the action is on three counts – to protect privacy, not allow defamation, and to protect the personality rights. We sought an injunction for this and we asked for a takedown notice. Out of the 26 videos, 9 remain while some are taken out. But the fact of the matter is that it was such glaring, fake, and defamatory news that we had no choice but come to court.

Ameet further added,

No body’s private life is for public display, you can’t profit by making fake news of it.

Ameet even shared that the next hearing for the matter will take place in July. He further stated that a zero-tolerance policy must be adopted, and there has to be some care and diligence.

Since the matter is subjudice, we need to wait and watch how things unfold on this front.
