Ex-Kaizer Chiefs defender Valery Nahayo exclusively spoke to The South African, saying Chiefs striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana will grow at Wydad Casablanca should he leave the club.

The retired Burundian defender’s sentiments come as the lanky striker, Bimenyimana is heavily linked with a move from Chiefs to the North African giants, Wydad.

Media reports surfaced that the Burundi international is wanted by the Moroccan side, Wydad and he has already left South Africa to finalise the deal.

Should it happen, Nahayo is adamant that the young hitman will benefit from the opportunity because Wydad are bigger than the DStv Premiership side, Chiefs.

The South African also published that the 25-year-old might have played his last game for Chiefs in the previous term as he could be playing for last season’s CAF Champions League losing finalists.

When asked about Bimenyimana’s expected move to Morocco, the Belgium-based Nahayo said he doesn’t doubt that the young striker will develop his game in the north.

“I think it’s good for him because Wydad plays in the CAF Champions League every season..so, we will have to see if it really happens but there’s no doubt this will be a big move for him,” Nahayo told The South African.

“I think he saw himself which side or direction to take in his career and he started well at Kaizer Chiefs but we don’t know why he eventually dropped.

“We don’t know the reasons but I think something happened between him and the coach, maybe it’s all about trust issues.

“For me, he didn’t have a bad season and I thought Chiefs would give him a second chance. Coming to Wydad, I think it’s a big and better move than Chiefs.

“The competitions are always at the top level and they reached the Champions League final last season which shows the ambitions of the club.

“There’s no doubt this will be a big move and he will learn from what happened Chiefs. Caleb is a good boy.

“I know him personally and yes we didn’t have a chat about private things at Chiefs but he will grow and learn in Morocco. We also need him in the national team because he is a leader.”
