Fans are relieved that Emily In Paris season 2 has finally confirmed Emily’s age (and it’s not what Lily Collins told us)

Emily In Paris has been back on screens with its second season for barely 24 hours, and fans are hard at work to get the answers they’ve been waiting for.

No, we’re not talking about the ongoing drama surrounding Emily’s love life. One episode of the new season covers Emily’s birthday, so we can finally confirm how old she is.

This comes after Lily Collins (who plays the fabulously-dressed ex-pat Emily) prompted discussion in an interview with British Vogue while promoting the first season of Emily In Paris last year. “I don’t believe we’ve ever given her a specific ‘number’ for her age, but I believe that she’s pretty fresh out of college. Maybe this is her first year after graduation. I want to say she’s like, 22ish.”

Fans have questioned how realistic it would be that Emily would be this successful in her career by the age of 22, let alone being sent abroad in a position of responsibility to represent her company.

Luckily, Emily celebrates her birthday this season, and one birthday message confirms she is – in fact – 29 years old. One birthday post on the character’s social media reads: “29 years jeune, Happy Birthday @EmilyInParis!” And fans have not missed a trick.

In a follow up with British Vogue about the newly released season, Lily has addressed criticisms of the show regarding diversity.

“We took a lot of the critiques to heart in terms of what was spoken about after season one, first in terms of incorporating more of the French culture,” she says. “Diversity and inclusion were really important in front of the camera as well as behind the camera with cast and crew.

“Really, it was a gift to be given these comments and creative critiques, to be able to listen and grow and create a season two that we felt was even better than season one.”

She also opened up about what it was like to film season two in Paris while the city was slowly opening itself back up after a stream of Covid-19-related lockdowns. “There were no American travellers at the beginning; it was really just the residents,” she says.

“There was almost an intimacy within the city that was created, at least for myself and my husband and our dog. Your relationship with the city had to change.”
