Fans dunk on LeBron James after showing support for Deshaun Watson

Watson was suspended for more than half a season after being hit with multiple accusations of sexual assault.

Supporting a fellow athlete sometimes comes with risk of condemnation.

On Sunday, sports fans dunked on Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James after he tweeted support for Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson during a game against the Washington Commanders.

Watson executed three touchdown passes in a nine-completion game, leading to the 24-10 win for Cleveland.

Praising Watson’s performance, James tweeted: “Yessir D Watson!! Another one. That boy getting his rhythm back!”

Fox News reported football fans weren’t having any of James’ support of Watson, who returned to action following being suspended for more than half a season after being hit with multiple accusations of sexual assault.

While a majority of the lawsuits against Watson were settled and he wasn’t criminally prosecuted, he is still a villain in the eyes of some social media users.

“LePleaseDeleteThis,” one fan tweeted.

“I know LeBron grew up a Browns fan but I’m surprised Deshaun Watson is a person he’s publicly supporting,” another weighed in. 

James had previously supported the Dallas Cowboys, and denounced his fandom to the team because of the way owner Jerry Jones handled protests during the national anthem a few years ago.

One fan didn’t forget that.

“You stopped being a cowboys fan because of Jerry Jones but you are now actively rooting for Deshaun Watson!?” they tweeted.
