Best friends Jasmine Tookes and Josephine Skriver pulled back the curtain on what life was really like as Victoria’s Secret models.

Things may have appeared sexy and glamorous for those who got to see the final results. It certainly wasn’t the case for the angels on the catwalk.

Tookes, 32, and Skriver, 30, appeared on the Real Pod podcast and when host Victoria Garrick asked if they knew just how much of an impact they had on people who watched their fashion shows.

“It was a weird time because you realize you were getting a massive amount of eyes looking at you,” Skriver said.

“We got signed right when social media exploded too so it was this combination of everyone’s gonna know you for this glamorous side, takes two-and-a-half hours in hair and makeup, personal trainers, this whole situation,” she explained.

“Yet you now have the ability of taking them behind the scenes and showing them the more real you.”

Skriver noted that it felt like people became obsessed by them, even the little things.

“Like, they wanted to know what kind of toothpaste I used and I was like, ‘Really? That just seems boring.’”

Instead, Skriver wanted fans to see just how much work went into their jobs, despite the public assuming it all seemed so effortless.

Tookes revealed that she still sees comments from people “every day” on her Instagram account who remark, “you’re always so put together,” and “you’re always so perfect.”

She scoffed, “No, I’m not! Not even the slightest bit,” before adding, “If you saw me waking up in the morning in my house, the middle of the day, walking around with spit up all over me from the baby, no makeup on, that’s my real life.”

Garrick commented that for those who watched the shows or looked at Victoria’s Secret catalogues or photos online, it wasn’t super-obvious the pictures were Photoshopped because there weren’t as many photo-editing apps and filters as there are now.

“I think for us it was given as this effortless thing and then I put on my bathing suit to go to the pool with my friends and the standard is to look the way the magazine photo looks,” the host said.

“It’s just so crazy because I think to me it’s like so obvious, when you look back at our old VS campaigns,” Tookes said.

Skriver admitted she thought everyone knew the images were “all fake,” with the models in “a full costume” of body makeup and retouched so much they barely looked like themselves.

She added that her loved ones didn’t even recognize her in some photos.

“I would stand next to the big billboards on the street, and I could stand there for 30 minutes and not a single person could put the two people together,” she said.

“I don’t even look like my pictures,” Skriver added. “Sometimes my mom would be like, ‘Is that you? I didn’t even know you could look like this.”
