Despite hearing multiple tax fraud incidents in Europe among footballers, it is safe to say that the culture in this country is safe and sound.

Income Tax

When it comes to MS Dhoni, the former Indian captain is a man who abides by the laws. He is well respected for his on-field achievements, and the person is the same off the field.

And according to reports, Dhoni has become the top taxpayer in Jharkhand yet again. According to the Income Tax Department, the former India player paid a humongous amount of tax money in the previous fiscal year.

Dhoni filed a sum of Rs 38 crore in taxes for the fiscal year which ended on March 31 in 2023.

The veteran earns about Rs 12 crore from Chennai Super Kings from his annual contract. Then why did he file a tax sum which more than twice his annual salary!

It may sound baffling, but for the uninitiated, Dhoni filed those amounts as an Advance Tax, which can be paid by a citizen in advance to the government.

MS Dhoni

Dhoni has several other components of earning as he has been involved in an array of businesses. The 42-year-old owns over 200 gyms across the country which operate under the banner of SportsFit World Pvt. Ltd. He also owns a part of ISL club Chennaiyin FC.

Dhoni also owns a production house named Dhoni Entertainment Pvt Limited (DEPL), which recently produced a Tamil movie named Let’s Get Married.

Hence his tax is not just based on his IPL salary, but from all the sources of his income. The former India captain is expected to be around the stadium for at least another season as he prepares for the IPL 2024.
