Frank Warren insists Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk is not dead yet with crunch talks for the fight to go ahead taking place this afternoon.

Usyk’s manager Egis Kilmas and promoter Alex Krassyuk have both claimed the fight scheduled to take place at Wembley Stadium on 29 April is off, citing unreasonable demands from the WBC champion.

Fury’s promoter Warren appeared live on talkSPORT on Wednesday afternoon to insist there is still a strong chance the fight can be salvaged.

‘The Gypsy King’ has demanded a 70-30 split of the fight purse in his favour, terms Usyk has agreed to. Fury however has sought to scrap plans for a rematch clause which became a major sticking point in negotiations.

Offering a more positive update, Warren explained Fury has now agreed to keep the rematch clause in the contract but there is still no agreement on the purse split for that second fight.

‘I convinced Tyson to take the rematch [with Usyk] and he did. So I told them on Sunday we’re gonna go with the rematch,’ Warren said.

‘Then we got into a situation with how is the rematch money gonna be split and that’s what we’ve been working on…

‘Why can’t it be overcome if he wants the fight? We want the fight, why can’t it be overcome?… There’s no reason for this fight to be off.’

Warren suggested they will agree to the same deal Usyk had for his rematch with Anthony Joshua last year – which was thought to be a 50-50 split.

‘You know why they want the rematch clause? Because it’s two paydays,’ Warren continued.

‘Where are they gonna earn the type of money they can earn fighting Tyson twice? They aren’t gonna get that type of money to fight Filip Hrgovic, Joe Joyce or Daniel Dubois [Usyk’s three mandatory challengers].

‘But Tyson brings a lot of money to the table, that’s why they want it…

‘We are willing to take the same deal as what they did for their rematch with Anthony Joshua. I know what that deal is so we’ll go with that, no problem with that.’

Krassyuk joined Warren on talkSPORT with the two agreeing to continue negotiations today.
