Georgetown vs. Seton Hall prediction and odds for Tuesday, February 14

It hasn’t been a good year for the Georgetown Hoyas and it’s been especially awful for Patrick Ewing’s team in Big East play. They come into this matchup with Seton Hall sporting a 1-14 conference record and a 6-20 mark overall. I wouldn’t call that great.

Seton Hall however, is putting together a solid resume in its first year with Shaheen Holloway at the helm.

The Pirates have lost their last two outings including a 58-54 rock fight with Villanova on Saturday, but at 15-11 and 8-7 in the Big East they’re in sixth, just a tier below the teams that have had a top 25 ranking next to their name most of the season.

As a big home favorite, Holloway’s team needs to stay at the top of that second tier of Big East teams by beating up on the lowest team on the conference totem pole. Let’s get into the odds.

Georgetown vs. Seton Hall prediction and pick

If you’re a parent out there looking to teach your son or daughter about how to play good, clean, offensive basketball, do not let them watch this game. Turn on the parental controls, because this thing could be ugly.

I called the 58-54 game between Seton Hall and Villanova a rock fight, but this might turn into whatever is a step down from that.

The Pirates win games in the Big East, but it’s in spite of what they do on offense. They score 68.5 points a game, 10th out of 11 teams in the Big East, and are 245th in offensive efficiency. Even while playing at a very slow pace, 208th in possessions per game, they commit the most turnovers per game in the conference.

Now, the Pirates are 32nd in defensive efficiency and 45th in scoring defense, so that’s how they’re winning their games.

Georgetown is even worse on offense, 220th in offensive efficiency. The Hoyas play at a faster pace, so they average just over 70 points a game, but they don’t have any defense to speak of.

The Hoyas are allowing 77.5 points a game, that’s 345th in the country. Despite that, I think this will be a low-scoring Seton Hall win, like their 66-51 victory back on January 10th.
