Girard-Perregaux Announces Its 2023 Aston Martin Edition In British Racing Green Ceramic

Swiss watchmaker Girard-Perregaux continues its partnership with luxury sports car maker Aston Martin with its third limited edition, aimed at collectors. This one has a case and bracelet made of tough ceramic tinted in colored British racing green, a hue used by Aston Martin in some of its cars. The two brands launched their collaboration in 2021 with the Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges. The second was in 2022, the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Chronograph Aston Martin F1. Both are long sold out.

While the first two contained complicated movements, the new one is a pared-down three-hand watch with a date window. It’s the first time a Laureato, with its signature octagonal bezel, has featured a green ceramic case and bracelet. The distinctive color was achieved by adding a specific amount of metallic oxides to the zirconium used to make ceramic. It has been polished and satin finished. The dials are finished in a cross-hatch pattern that mimics the pattern found on the Aston Martin logo, as well as on the quilted leather seats inside Aston Martin cars.

There are two sizes, one measuring 38mm x 10.27mm, which will be produced in a limited edition of 188 pieces, priced at $25,000. The other measures 42mm x 11.08mm, and will be produced in a series of 388 pieces, priced at $25,800. Both have automatic in-house movements: the 42mm has the caliber GP01800, with a 54-hour power reserve, while the 38mm version is equipped with the caliber GP03300, with a 46-hour power reserve. They can be seen through an open caseback that is etched with the Aston Martin logo.

The Laureato was first launched in 1975, at a time when modern sports watches were being designed in experimental shapes. It had an octagonal bezel that sat atop a circular plinth, which in turn was positioned above an angular tonneau-shaped case. Founded in 1791, Girard-Perregaux is one of the oldest fine watchmaking manufactures still in operation.
