GLAMOUR Tries: We’ve tried re-creating the viral 90s-inspired blowout – here’s how it turned out

There’s no better pastime than testing out the coolest new skincare/makeup/hair trends and snazzy innovations in beauty tech from the comfort of your own home. That said, there’s nothing more frustrating than spending upwards of £100 on a new at-home facial system or snazzy pair of hair straighteners, only to find out they don’t *actually* work.

Enter: GLAMOUR Tries, the weekly Instagram series which sees GLAMOUR editors do all of the time-consuming (and expensive) work for you.

Yep, we’ve been busy trying out all of the wacky and wonderful beauty crazes to take the internet (read: TikTok) by storm – from the YSL lipstick printer to Il Makiage’s iconic foundation and even the viral Hair Bedazzler tool from Amazon. These are the products every influencer/Gen-Z beauty sleuth/beauty editor is talking about on the internet – but that you want to be sure about before parting with your money.

Thanks to GLAMOUR Tries, you won’t need to waste your hard-earned pennies on testing these innovations yourself. We’re getting in there first, giving you the lowdown and ensuring you invest in products that genuinely work.

And this week, our Social Media Manager Luca Wetherby-Matthews decided to re-create the viral ’90s-inspired wavy blowout using the Special edition Dyson Airwrap multi-styler Complete to see how it works on curly hair. The exact model that she used comes in the new Vinca blue and Rosé colourway that’s been released as part of the Christmas collection.

First, Luca applied a heat-protective spray all over her curly hair to reduce the potential damage. Before styling, she also decided to dry her hair using the firm brush attachment.

Next, she opted for the volumising brush attachment and brushed through her damp hair and curl the ends, holding them in place for approximately 15 seconds. She then made sure to seal the style by using the cold temperature setting for about 5 seconds and repeated the process throughout the remaining sections.

As a finishing touch, she used the long barrel to amplify her curls and face-framed the strands to add that extra touch of definition. Luca was left with a gorgeous, bouncy and voluminous hairstyle – and we honestly can’t believe this was achieved from the comfort of her own home.
