Glover Teixeira finally breaks through, earns UFC title over Jan Blachowicz at UFC 267.
After 20 years in the sport, Glover Teixeira shocked the world by finishing Jan Blachowicz at UFC 267 to finally earn UFC gold.
Teixeira opened the action with some nasty grappling in the opening minutes, quickly getting a big takedown on Blachowicz. Teixeira didn’t let him once the fight got to the ground, landing some hard strikes and leaving Blachowicz with very little room to breathe.
Blachowicz started to find his rhythm in the second round, landing some hard combinations and stiff hooks that rattled Teixeira. But, Teixeira would transition from a brief clinch to get Blachowicz’s back, sinking in a nasty rear-naked choke to secure the light heavyweight championship.
Teixeira’s win over Blachowicz made him the oldest first-time champion in modern UFC history, at 42 years old.

Blachowicz entered UFC 267 making his second light heavyweight title defense, after earning the vacant belt over Dominick Reyes and becoming the first UFC fighter to beat Israel Adesanya. He had won five fights in a row and 9 of his last 10 bouts, including knockouts over former UFC champion Luke Rockhold and former contender Corey Anderson.
Teixeira was looking to prove that age is just a number, as he made his second UFC title challenge in his illustrious career. At 42 years old, this could very well have been the final fight for Teixeira, despite five wins in a row en route to the title shot.
Teixeira got the opportunity to face Blachowicz after back-to-back finishes over former title challengers Anthony Smith and Thiago Santos.
With the victory over Blachowicz, Teixeira has solidified himself as one of the all-time greats in the history of the light heavyweight division.
