Guy Martin gets engaged as he U-turns on marriage views

Guy Martin has shared his plans to get married to his girlfriend, despite previously believing he would “never” tie the knot with anyone. 

The 41-year-old heavy vehicle mechanic, who retired from motorcycle racing in 2017, has been smashing world speed records on our screens for 13 years.

Speaking to Radio Times, the daredevil star lifted the lid on his next great adventure – married life. 

After previously claiming he would never marry, Guy has admitted to changing his tune. 

“I bought my missus an engagement ring a couple of weeks ago,” he told the publication. 

“There will be about half a dozen at the wedding. We’re not flash people. 

“We’ll just go to a registry office in Grimsby and get it done,” he continued. 

Asked why he had “U-turned” on the idea of matrimony, he explained: “We’ve got a kid. 

“She puts up with me, I put up with her, we get on with it. And it would make her happy. 

“I’m going to do a daft pushbike ride next year, and it makes our life far easier if we’re married. 

“And I don’t want a girl off the telly. I’m quite happy with my Sharon!” he added.

Elsewhere in the interview the Channel 4 star, who has fronted series like Speed with Guy Martin, was asked about his experience as being something of a male role model. 

Speaking about whether he thinks it’s “a tricky time to be a man”, he replied: “Yes, definitely!

“Bl***y hell, I don’t know what I can say without offending anyone!” he laughs. “We’re men and we do things like men.”

He also added that men are “frowned upon” for getting into confrontations, but insisted: “There are times and places in life where words will no longer work and we have to fight. 

“That’s the world I still live in. I like that men do things like that. I don’t think you can take that away from me.”
