Haye delivers promising five-word verdict on Fury vs Joshua

David Haye believes a long-awaited Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua clash will happen eventually. The former two-weight world champion stated that ‘the big fights always happen’ and that the monetary value of the contest will override the politics.

Fury and Joshua had been close to securing a fight for December 3 earlier this month. However, communication dropped at the eleventh hour. Eddie Hearn blamed George Warren for not responding to his latest contract request while Warren accused Hearn of ‘lacking ambition’.

But Haye believes that negotiations will be rekindled, despite Frank Warren telling Express Sport last week that the fight is unlikely to ever take place.

“The big fights always happen, they don’t happen when you want them to happen. People said that about [Floyd] Mayweather and [Manny] Pacquiao, [Mike] Tyson and [Evander] Holyfield,” Haye told iFL TV. “The massive, massive fights always happen, except for Riddick Bowe and Lennox Lewis but that’s because one of the fighters put their belt in the bin instead of fighting.

Three-time world title challenger Chris Arreola is also believed to be in consideration while Zhang Zhilei’s name has also been mentioned in the same conversation.

Fury’s next fight is scheduled to take place on the same date as the proposed all-British showdown as he looks set to take on Derek Chisora for the third time. The Gypsy King had originally been in talks to square off against unranked heavyweight veteran Mahmoud Charr, but Chisora has since become the frontrunner for the December 3 bout.

When the pair squared off previously in 2011 and 2014, Fury claimed victory on both occasions. The first came via decision and the second via a tenth-round retirement.
