However, Hearn says that he intends to reach out to Wilder’s manager Shelly Finkel this week to discuss the possibility of a Joshua vs Wilder fight for either March or the summer.
“Maybe they’re looking to push the Ruiz fight a little bit, or I don’t know, maybe they want it,” he told the DAZN boxing show. “I’m going to reach out to Shelly today. There’s a lot of options going around for Deontay Wilder. Firstly, I have the Anthony Joshua fight, which is a massive fight for Deontay Wilder.
“I also have the Dillian Whyte fight. I’d still love to make Whyte against Wilder, but happy to look at both of those fights.
Wilder has been ordered to face Andy Ruiz Jr next in a WBC final eliminator for a shot at Fury’s green strap, but the Bronze Bomber has expressed interest in facing Oleksandr Usyk or AJ as he pursues the three belts he is yet to hold (WBO, WBA ‘super’, IBF).
Joshua is set to return to the ring in March after consecutive losses to Usyk. At first, Joshua was expected to box on December 17 at the O2 Arena, but the Watford powerhouse opted for more time out.
Outside of his proposed opponent, there has been rampant speculation about who will train Joshua for his return. The former unified heavyweight champion was coached by Robert Garcia and Angel Fernandez for his rematch against Usyk but recent comments suggesting that he wants to be a ‘free spirit’ when it comes to his training have caused rumours to circulate.
Joshua recently revealed that he will remain with Fernandez for the foreseeable future but Garcia’s involvement going forward is still uncertain.
