Heavy defeat for Glasgow Warriors in Dublin as Toulon win Challenge Cup

Glasgow Warriors have been defeated in the Challenge Cup Grand Final as Toulon win comfortably in Dublin.

Franco Smith’s side fell to a 43-19 defeat at the Aviva stadium on Friday night.

Warriors were playing at this stage of the competition for the first time against a team who had already won the tournament three times in the last decade.

And it was the French side who lifted the trophy again with a commanding performance in the Irish capital.

Baptiste Serin scored two tries and three conversions while teammates Parisse and Paillaugue were also on the scoresheet.

Steyn, Cancelliere and Horne all grabbed points for the Warriors but it wasn’t enough to salvage anything from the game.

Toulon were 21-0 up at half-time as the Warriors were blown away by the dominant French side.

Serin was replaced just after half-time after picking up an injury.

The Glasgow side were handed a brief lifeline when a try from Steyn and conversion from Horne made it 21-7.

But Toulon soon took control again and it was 36-7 to them just after the hour mark.

Warriors made it 36-12 with ten minutes left on the clock, but it mattered little at this stage with Toulon well in front.
