• Del Mar announced this week that for the first time it will present a $1 million guarantee to any single-ticket holder of the 20-cent Pick Six on opening day of its eight-week summer meet that begins July 21. The first card of the meet is expected to include 10 races, meaning that the Pick Six will be offered on races 5-10. If someone hits the Pick Six for $300,000 and holds the lone winning ticket, the track will add $700,000 for a total of $1 million. The record Pick Six payout at Del Mar was $2.1 million on Aug. 1, 2004, when there was a single-ticket winner.

• Santa Anita announced Thursday it will offer 42 stakes races, including 31 graded events and 15 Grade I’s, during its fall meet that begins Friday, Sept. 29. Opening day will include the Grade III Chillingworth Stakes, honoring the late Sherwood Chillingworth, longtime director with the Santa Anita-based Oak Tree Racing Association. A number of Breeders’ Cup prep races will be run during the 19-day meet, including the Grade I Awesome Again Stakes, a qualifier to the Breeders’ Cup Classic on Nov. 4. Santa Anita will host this year’s Breeders’ Cup for a record 11th time on Nov. 3-4.

• Cody’s Wish continues to top the National Thoroughbred Racing Association’s Top Thoroughbred Poll with 27 first-place votes. Elite Power (five first-place votes), Clairiere, West Will Power, Up to the Mark, In Italian, Defunded, Caravel, Art Collector and Goodnight Olive round out the Top 10. Many of the ranked horses are expected to make their next starts at Del Mar or Saratoga.
