Hyundai Australia recalls thousands of vehicles over DCT fault

0

Hyundai Australia has issued a recall for 8466 vehicles across several model lines, over an issue with the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) where drivers may experience a sudden loss of power.

“Software logic for ‘fail-safe’ driving conditions was not set up to correctly respond when certain transmission oil pump faults are detected in the dual clutch transmission,” the company says in its recall notice.

“Loss of motive power while driving at high speed could increase the risk of a crash. This could potentially result in injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”

Hyundai Australia will be contacting affected owners, and instructing them to present their vehicle to their preferred dealer, who will install a DCT software update to remedy the above issue.

This follows a recall of 61,861 vehicles in the USA (as of October 2022) for the same issue across six model lines, including the 2021-22 Hyundai Santa Fe, Sonata, and Veloster N, as well as the 2022 Elantra N, Kona N, and Santa Cruz. A stop-sale in North America was subsequently implemented at the time also.

Given the Kia Sorento also offers the eight-speed DCT in diesel variants, we’re expecting Kia Australia to issue a similar recall notice in due course. We’ve reached out for further comments.
